Cyborg, Mousasi and Roy Jones Win Big

Gina Carano headlined the Strikeforce card on Saturday night. She lost in the first round against Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos. Carano is one of the biggest draws in Strikeforce and the biggest female draw in North American MMA. How much of a drawing power Santos will be is another question, however, we know she will not be any where near the draw Carano was. On the upside this situation gives Strikeforce two female stars in its stable.

In other action on the same card, Gegard Mousasi took out Renato “BabaluSobral in one round and instantly became a middleweight star. Mousasi was an up and comer who has now won 13 straight MMA contests. He is now a solid top 5 middleweight and potentially the heir to the middleweight throne now held by Anderson Silva.

In boxing news from Saturday night, Roy Jones looked reminiscent of the Roy Jones from 10 years ago when he stopped Jeff Lacy in 10 rounds. His speed and quickness seemed to take us back to vintage Roy Jones on several occasions as he played it up for the audience while in the ring. The question now is where does Roy go from here. There is talk of a cruiser weight challenge and also a fight with MMA king Anderson Silva. The only thing for certain seems to be that Roy will keep fighting for the next little while.
