Floyd Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao

Let's face it if Floyd Mayweather beats Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao beats Miguel Cotto everyone will be asking for a Pacquiao - Mayweather showdown. There are significant negotiation hurdles, however, in order for that fight to take place. For one, Manny wants a 50-50 split and Floyd said he will never fight for a 50-50 split of the purse. Bob Arum manages Manny Pacquiao and doesn't get along with Floyd Mayweather at all which will make the negotiations extremely painful. Floyd claims that Arum takes a 27% cut of Pacquiao's purse and is the biggest rip off in boxing. The other problem is that Floyd Mayweather is convinced that he is the bigger draw and bigger star when in reality they are pretty close overall. 50-50 would probably be a fair split depending on how much business and how well both fighters do in their next fights.

Realistically, no matter what the percentages both fighters will earn a lot more fighting each other than anyone else. As long as they realize that and are willing to compromise this fight should happen. Unfortunately, that is a big IF. I think there is a realistic chance this fight will never happen while the two are still in their primes. Mayweather will probably have to bend if Pacquiao beats Cotto convincingly. Manny will remain number one on every pound for pound list no matter what Mayweather does. The problem is that I don't see Mayweather caving at all and If negotiations break down then they both still have the Shane Mosley option and that fight would do solid business. I don't see any other fight being nearly as lucrative though. For boxing fans' sake lets all hope this fight gets made soon.
